How To Shampoo & Condition Wig?

Essential Tips for Proper Care

Wigs are a great way to change your look and feel confident, but they do require care and maintenance. Shampooing and conditioning your wig is an essential part of caring for it to make it last longer, keep its style, and keep it looking its best. Here are some essential tips to help you get the most out of your wig washing routine.

[What You Need]
Before you start shampooing and conditioning your wig, you will need the following items:
- A wig stand or a head-shaped mannequin
- A wide-tooth comb or wig brush
- Shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for wigs
- A bowl or sink with warm water
- A clean towel

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Detangle the Wig
Before washing your wig, you need to make sure it is free of tangles. This will not only help you identify any areas that need mild repair but will also help prevent the hair from tangling further during the washing process. Simply use your fingers or a wig brush to gently detangle the wig from the ends towards the roots.

2. Soak the Wig
Fill a bowl or sink with warm water and add a small amount of wig shampoo. Make sure that the shampoo is specifically formulated for wigs, as regular shampoos may contain ingredients that can damage the wig fibers or cause tangling. Soak the wig in the water for about five minutes to let the shampoo penetrate deeply into the hair.

3. Rinse the Wig
After soaking the wig in water and shampoo, rinse it with cold water to remove the shampoo gently. Make sure all shampoo is removed from the wig before you continue with the next step.

4. Condition the Wig
Using your fingers or a wig brush, gently apply a small amount of wig conditioner to the hair. Be careful not to apply the conditioner to the base or root of the wig as this can loosen the knots and cause shedding. Allow the conditioner to sit for two to five minutes.

5. Rinse out the Conditioner
Like you did with the shampoo, rinse the hair thoroughly using cool water until all the conditioner is removed. Do not rub or wring the wig as this can weaken the fibers and cause tangling.

6. Dry Your Wig
After washing and conditioning your wig, gently blot it with a clean towel to remove excess water. Shake the wig lightly to remove any remaining water drops, and then place it on a wig stand or a mannequin head to dry. Allow your wig to air dry completely before styling or storing it.

Summary:
Shampooing and conditioning your wig is crucial to maintaining its beauty and prolonging its lifespan. When washing your wig, use the appropriate shampoo and conditioner to avoid damaging it. Detangle the hair and let it soak in warm water and shampoo for about five minutes to hygienically cleanse it. Rinse with cold water and proceed to condition the hair, giving it time to sit for a couple of minutes. Rinse thoroughly and gently remove excess water using a clean towel then air-dry the wig completely.

Taking the time to care for your wig will ensure it’s always looking its best, which will improve your overall confidence and make you feel great every time you wear it.
